It’s reminding me of the lovely, almost unfinished quality some of the background paintings in Triplets of Belleville or The Illusionist seem to be carrying in my mind.

Ah, thank you for our input on this. I was leaning more into leaving it the way it is. Having to hear it from another makes it seem like a sound idea.

I love how it looks unfinished, and would consider keeping it as is. There is something about seeing the “rough edges” in the background, and the people who are not the central characters of the image being less finished, as if all eyes are on the man and woman.
